In August 2019, KB Advisory Group’s Jonathan Gelber participated in the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Advisory Services Panel for Fairplex in Pomona, California. ULI released the final report for the panel in 2020.
What is an Advisory Services Panel?
ULI takes members into communities dealing with various real estate and land use challenges as part of an Advisory Services Panel. The panels consist of multidisciplinary professionals. The panelists provide unbiased, expert advice and specific recommendations for improvement. ULI members work directly with local leaders and draft plans to revive, rethink, and restore each community.
What happened in 2019?
Fairplex is home to the Los Angles County Fair. The site is poised for redevelopment to meet best the area’s “changing demographics and future market challenges.” In 2019, ULI brought together a panel of members—developers, planners, financiers, market analysts, economists, architects, designers, and public officials. They examined the economic and destination potential of the 487-acre, roughly 100-year-old site to help Fairplex pursue those goals.
Jonathan enjoyed serving with other professionals and working with the new Fairplex management team. Jonathan and the other panel members also interviewed stakeholders. While in Pomona, he toured the site and the adjacent communities.
